CIMS / CRA Mail notice update:
After speaking with the CRA, the Union Hall was informed that the summary of the letter members received is that meal and travel allowances were taxed when they should not have been. As a result, these amounts were incorrectly calculated as hours toward individuals’ CPP and EI for the 2014–2015 tax years.
The CRA is going to send out a notice of reassessment to anyone that was affected, and will send a refund for the tax paid on the Meal Allowance only, not on the Travel allowance as Lodge 359 was not on portal to portal yet during those years.
